Jun 18, 2020 – Visiolink: We’ve previously written about Independent News & Media and their revamped digital strategy. Among the Irish-based media group’s titles, you’ll find Belfast Telegraph, and we’ve had a quick chat with their Head of Digital, Morgane Campioni, about their new ePaper solution and their partnership with Visiolink.

The Belfast Telegraph is a well-renowned newspaper, e.g. named  “Best UK Regional Newspaper of the Year” in both 2012 and 2019. And their news site has also won many accolades over the years – most recently "Best Regional News Site in the UK" at this year's Online Media Awards. But it isn't all a walk in the park.

Since the beginning of the 21st century, the Northern Irish newspaper has experienced a steady declining print circulation – in line with the general trend in the British media industry. The many digital alternatives is indeed part of the reason, so the Belfast Telegraph has now decided to further strengthen its digital presence with a kiosk solution called Belfast Telegraph Newsstand – available on both web, iOS, and Android.

“Having our own Belfast Telegraph Newsstand apps, housing our Northern Irish ePapers, is a really important step as the Belfast Telegraph builds its online subscriber’s base in Northern Ireland and beyond. The premium ePaper apps form a key part of our value proposition to our paying digital readers, who want to access their favorite titles anytime, anywhere” says Morgane Campioni, Head of Digital at Belfast Telegraph.

“The apps have already proven very popular among our early subscribers. Their launch in May coincided with the launch of our digital paid-for content offering, which has represented a real milestone in the Belfast Telegraph’s 150-year history” she tells.

A fruitful partnership
The Belfast Telegraph Newsstand is in fact Visiolink’s first installation in the United Kingdom. But the newspaper is a part of Independent News & Media, so the search for a provider to handle their digital editions was a no-brainer – the partnership with Visiolink was already ripe for the picking.

“Visiolink is a long-standing provider of Independent News & Media, so it was the natural partner for this very important project on our digital roadmap. Our partnership with Visiolink throughout the project was direct, helpful, and constructive and Visiolink delivered our apps on time. It is a real asset for regional titles, like the Belfast Telegraph and the Sunday Life, to be able to use and monetise a quality ePaper solution like the one developed by Visiolink” Morgane Campioni states.

Apart from the Belfast Telegraph newspaper, users of the Newsstand app will also have access to Sunday Life and Sunday Independent. As an additional engaging feature, the Belfast Telegraph Newsstand also includes Interactive Crosswords, and Morgane Campioni is generally excited to be presenting the readers with the new solution. You can find it on Google Play Store and App Store.
